4 x 12 Samara by Motawi Tileworks

4 x 12 Samara by Motawi Tileworks

Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest architects of the 20th century. Wright's John and Catherine Christian House, also known as Samara (named after a pinecone's winged seeds), was completed in West Lafayette, Indiana, toward the end of his illustrious career. The samara seed pattern appears on Wright's perforated board design for the house, and perhaps most prominently on a rug commissioned by Professor Christian in the 1990s and designed by Taliesin's Aris Georges and Cornelia Brierly. This handsome tile is shown framed in our own handmade quartersawn white oak frame, hand selected to ensure the best finish, in our flat 2" wide Oak Park profile. Also available in our 3" wide beveled Legacy profile, or unframed. Both frames come in a variety of stain color options - make your selection in the pull-down lists below.

4" x 8" Sumac by Motawi Tileworks

4" x 8" Sumac by Motawi Tileworks

This 4 x 8 Sumac tile is based on the abstract sumac motif used throughout the Wright-designed Dana-Thomas House. The House was built for Susan Lawrence Dana, a social activist and socialite, in 1902. Because of the unlimited budget of the patron, Frank Lloyd Wright created some of his finest and most detailed art glass compositions for the elaborate home in Springfield, Illinois. This handsome tile is shown framed in our own handmade quarter sawn white oak frame, hand selected to ensure the best finish, in our flat 2" wide Oak Park profile. Also available in our 3" wide beveled Legacy profile, or unframed. Both frames come in a variety of stain color options - make your selection in the pull-down lists below.

4 x 4 Avery Tulip By Motawi Tileworks

4 x 4 Avery Tulip By Motawi Tileworks

Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest architects of the 20th century. Wright's drawing of a tile frieze for the Coonley House was the basis for Motawi Tileworks' 4x4 Avery Tulip art tile. While the drawing was never executed on the house, the design remains an early example of Wright's geometric nature abstractions.
